The Bove Valley is one of the most characteristic places of Etna, a mandatory stop for those who want to hike on the volcano. The Caldera, this is the scientific name, is a large depression of about 40 square km, the formation of which is presumed to be due to the collapse of ancient eruptive centres, the most recent of which, according to the latest studies, dates back to 9,000 years ago. The valley is desert, inside the lava flows of the most important eruptions of the twentieth - 21st century have converged, we remember those of 1991 - 1993 - 2017 - 2018 - 2019 - 2021 that poured into this desert valley huge quantities of lava material. To the east there is an almost entirely flat area, interrupted by Monte Calanna, a crater that delimits the valley of the same name. In addition to the mountain, some Adventist craters are visible such as Monte Simone (eruption of 1811-12), the Monti Centenari (1852-53) and Mount Ritmann dating back to the eruption of 1986-87.

Itinerary: Our route crosses fascinating places and initially involves the use of the cable car, and then continue on foot to the entrance of an extraordinary sandy canal that will take us directly into the valley. We will cross lavious fields similar to lunar landscapes, and after a refreshment break we will resume the ascent in a canoe that will lead us to the ridge. Travelled an easy descent lasting about an hour, we will return to the starting point.
