The Valle del Bove is one of the most characteristic places on Mount Etna, a must-see for those wanting to hike on the volcano. The Caldera, the scientific name for this wide depression of about 40 square kilometers, is believed to have formed due to the collapse of ancient eruptive centers, the most recent of which, according to the latest studies, dates back 9,000 years. The valley appears desert-like, with lava flows from the most significant eruptions of the 20th and 21st centuries, including those of 1991, 1993, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021, which have poured enormous amounts of lava into this barren valley. To the east lies an almost entirely flat area, interrupted by Monte Calanna, a crater that marks the edge of the valley of the same name. In addition to the mountain, some parasitic craters are visible, such as Monte Simone (1811-12 eruption), the Monti Centenari (1852-53), and Monte Ritmann from the 1986-87 eruption.

Itinerary: Our route traverses fascinating places and initially uses the cable car, then continues on foot to the mouth of an extraordinary sandy channel that will lead us directly into the valley. We will cross lava fields resembling lunar landscapes, and after a refreshment break, we will resume the ascent in a gully that will take us to the crest. After an easy descent lasting about an hour, we will return to the starting point.
